His research areas include perception-based video technology and image processing. Hennessey’s research into 3D visual gaze-based analysis is being applied to the development of gaze-controlled computer interfaces intended to enable greater computer interaction for persons with disabilities. Hennessey’s research has led to the development of optical eye tracking systems used in commercial behavioral analysis and academic research.
Academic Life
Hennessey holds Bachelors, Masters, and Dctoral degrees in Engineering from Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia. He is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia, where he teaches courses on human computer interfaces and engineering design.
Business Life
Hennessey was founder and Chief Technical Officer of Mirametrix Research, a Vancouver-based company he founded to commercialize the results of his research. Hennessey’s research has led to advancements in Gaze Tracking technology and the development of Eye Tracking Devices that the company has productized. Hennessey reportedly started research into gaze tracking based on his own need for a high quality, easy-to-use eye tracker for use in his academic research.
Mirametrix was purchased by Tandemlaunch Technologies a Montreal-based technology transfer company, in February 2011 for an undisclosed sum. Since early 2011, Hennessey has been leading the technical development of consumer eye tracking solutions at Tandemlaunch Technologies under the Mirametrix brand.
