Jagat Kanta Seal

Jagat Kanta Seal () (1903 -1969) was an Indian amateur boxer.
Birth
In the year 1903,Jagat Kanta Seal born as the second child of late Shri Bankubehari Sil.
Early life
Seal came from a business family in Kolkata. He was born to Banku Bihari in Bowbazar, Kolkata sometime in the year 1906. In 1920 at the age of fourteen, Seal joined the Mohan Bagan club. He played football in Mohun Bagan till 1924. As a teenager he performed equally well in all sports. He was recognized as an all round player among his peers. While at school, he took part in football, hockey, cricket, lawn tennis, swimming and athletics. He performed exceptionally well in the athletics meet organized by the Bengal Olympic Association.
Career
After completing his high school, Seal began to take interest in boxing. In 1925, at the age of 19, Seal took part in his first boxing competition at the King Carnival in Kolkata. Since then Seal participated in almost all the boxing competitions in the city. Seal took admission at the Physical Training College in Chennai. While in Chennai, Seal competed in 15 boxing competitions and won most of them. He graduated from Physical Training College in first class and returned to Kolkata.
In 1928, Seal defeated famous boxer Will Carter at the Pearl Cinema in Kolkata. In 1930, Seal defeated Philippine boxer Ross Carlo at the Armenian Circus. He also fought against Percy Vanzer of South Africa. In his amateur boxing career, Seal won 25 of the 35 bouts that he appeared.
Later life
After retiring from competitive boxing, Seal founded the School of Physical Culture at Raja Subhodh Mallick Square in Kolkata, where he began to impart training on physical culture and boxing. He was the pioneer of boxing competition in Indian schools. He was associated with KMC and different physical organizations in the city.
Death
Jagat Kanta Seal died at the age of 66 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh on 16 January 1969. At that time he was present in National Boxing Championship.
