Jacob McCauley

Jacob was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He plays Guitar, Bass, Kit Drum and Bodhran.

Bio

Jacob began playing music at the age of 4 with Piano. By the age of 9 Jacob took up the Stand Up Bass, learning Classical music. Not long after he took up the Electric Bass and began playing Rock and Punk. Soon after he took up the Electric Guitar as well, playing mostly Metal. At the age of 11, Jacob took up the Bodhran (Celtic Drum), an instrument that he had dabbled with for a numbero of years but finally started lessons. After a 10 week course, he began his own self development, and creating his own modern style. At the age of 14, Jacob began playing some his first gigs with the celtic band Whirly Gig. By 16, Jacob was an active session player, as well as playing with Whirly Gig and also began teaching privately and at the Riverside Celtic College of Traditional Music part time. By 18, Jacob was teaching full time as well as playing in a number of bands.

Technique(for Bodhran)

Jacob uses a a combination of top-end style as well as the more traditional style using both ends of the tipper. He has creating a hybrid method of being able to use both styles together. The benefits of this are being able to


Present

Presently Jacob plays in Whirly Gig and Fig for a Kiss, as well as subbing in for different bands. Some of the bands he has played with are: Sproai, Bohola and Lau. Jacob has also won 1st place in the 1st annual Canadian Celtic Music Compeition in 2008(Fleadh) as well as winning an award in the Detroit Fleadh in 2008.
