Characters in the Guitar Hero series

Axel Steel
A playable character in the . He is playable in every game of the series to date. Throughout the games his appearance (which is a parody of the dead main guitarist of Pantera, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbot) remains similar to the classic image of a heavy metal guitar player wearing ripped or faded jeans and leather or denim jackets. The only game in which his appearance changes noticeably is Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s.

Johnny Napalm
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. He is playable in every game of the series to date. Johnny represents the punk genre in the games. He generally dresses in ripped shirts and jeans while being depicted as tall and lanky. He generally sports a dyed green (red in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock), spiky mohawk in the games.

Judy Nails
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. She is playable in every game of the series to date. Judy represents the alternative rock genre in the games. Her appearance in the games is a slightly gothic girl who wears pink clothes with skulls or snakes. She sports many different styles of outfits. Stockings and pantyhose are usually worn.

Pandora
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. She is playable in Guitar Hero, and Guitar Hero II. She also appears in Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s. Pandora represents the New Wave or Gothic genres in the games. She appears as a seductive rocker in the first two games, however in Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s she appears as an androgynous character.

Izzy Sparks
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. He is playable in every game of the series to date. In Guitar Hero he appeared as an unlockable character with the Grim Ripper. Since then he has been a starting character in every game. Izzy represents the Hard rock and glam metal genres in the games. He generally sports large hair and outrageous costumes in the games.

Xavier Stone
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. He is playable in every game of the series to date. Xavier represents funk rock and classic rock in the games. His common appearance in the games sports an afro and an outfit that suits the Sixties or Seventies, reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix (in the first game though, he sported multicoloured dreadlocks).

Clive Winston
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. He is playable in Guitar Hero, and Guitar Hero II. Clive Winston represents classic rock in the games. His appearance and mannerisms are similar to Jimmy Page, Angus Young, Frank Zappa, and John Lennon. One of his Star Power moves has him using a violin bow to play his guitar.

Lars Ümlaüt
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. He appears in Guitar Hero II, and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Lars represents the extreme metal genre in the games (more prominently black metal). He appears as a large man who generally wears make-up and costumes typical of black metal bands (though his corpse paint makeup is more reminiscent to that of Gene Simmons or King Diamond).

Eddie Knox
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. He appears in Guitar Hero II only. No explanation has been offered as to why he has only appeared in one game. Eddie represents rockabilly in the games. His appearance is similar to a greaser with a pompadour and sideburns in one available costume. His looks are similar to a stereotype of Elvis Presley.

Casey Lynch

A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. Her visual outlook and mannerisms are those of a hard rocker, as it is very stated that she is the classic kind of rebellious rocker, always on the road and only caring about the music she plays.

Midori
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. She appears in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Midori represents J-rock. She appears as an Asian girl wearing a skirt with purple hair and knee high stockings. She is the only new character in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock that is not a secret character.

Grim Ripper
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series, first introduced in Guitar Hero. He always appears as a hidden character in every game to date, including the special version, Rocks the 80s. In Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, though, he, along with God of Rock, appears only in the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC versions of the game - both being replaced by Metalhead and Elroy Budvis in the PlayStation 2 and Wii versions. He was the only character to have a personal guitar, which is a scythe with guitar strings attached. The Grim Ripper is a slightly different version of the Grim Reaper.

Lou
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series, who first appears in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Just like Grim Ripper represents Death, Lou is the game's version of the Devil. He appears as the final opponent in the game, where he defies the player to an overhauled and very difficult guitar version of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia". Beforehand though, he poses as manager to the in-game band. His name is probably a variation of lucifer or a borrowing on the name of Robert DeNiro's character in Angel Heart of Louis Seifer.

God of Rock
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. As the name implies, he looks like the Greek deity "God". He serves as antagonist to Lou in the Tutorial Mode of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Elroy Budvis
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. Appears as a secret character only in the Playstation 2 and Wii versions of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. He is an Elvis impersonator, but more than this, he plays guitar instead of just singing. Even so, he claims to be able to play any style of rock. but he also thinks he's the king of rock'n'roll

Metalhead
A playable character in the Guitar Hero series. Appears as a secret character only in the Playstation 2 and Wii versions of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Originally a Soviet warhead, Metalhead was disassembled after the Cold War ended and remade into a guitar-playing machine.

Tom Morello

He appears in the second level, Mitch's Moose Lounge, as the first boss in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. If you beat him in the composition he made, both you and him proceed to play the level encore (which, most likely intentionally, is "Bulls on Parade" by Rage Against the Machine).

Slash

He appears in the fifth level, Shanker's Island, as the second boss in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. If you beat him in the composition he made, both you and him proceed to play the level encore (which, probably intentionally, is "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns n' Roses).
