J.P. Rangaswami

JP Rangaswami (born 12 November 1957 in Calcutta, India) is a speaker, economist, financial journalist, technology innovator, and blogger.
Early Life and Education
JP Rangaswami was born in Calcutta and lived there till 1979 before emigrating to the United Kingdom in 1980. He studied at , University of Calcutta, where he earned an Honours Degree in Economics and Statistics.
Career
Originally an economist and financial journalist, JP Rangaswami has been an accidental technologist for over three decades. He has spent most of his career working in the nebulous junction where finance meets information and technology, for leading firms.
In January 2015, JP Rangaswami joined Deutsche Bank as its first-ever Chief Data Officer. As Chief Data Officer, he will play a key role in standardising the Bank's processes, tools and governance around information, and in supporting its digital strategy.
JP Rangaswami joined Deutsche Bank from salesforce.com, the world's largest provider of customer relationship-management software, where he was Chief Scientist since 2010. As Chief Scientist at salesforce.com, he focused on helping Salesforce.com's European customers think about innovative ways to use the real-time, mobile and social capabilities provided by Salesforce apps and the Force.com platform. He also contributed to salesforce.com’s product strategy, as well as promoting the benefits of cloud computing globally.
He began his career at BT Group in a variety of technology roles including Chief Scientist, and prior to that was Global Chief Information Officer at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein.
Influence and Honours
He was named CIO of the Year by Waters Magazine in 2003, CIO Innovator of the Year by the European Technology Forum in 2004, European Innovator of the Year by Innovate in 2005; in 2007 and 2008, he was listed in Silicon.com's Agenda Setters as one of technology's 50 most influential people; in 2009 and 2010, he made the Wired 100 and was ranked 18th in 2010. More recently, he was ranked 4th in Computer Weekly's 2013 list of the most influential people in IT.
He is a Trustee of the Web Science Trust and a Trustee of the Computer History Museum.
Personal life
JP Rangaswami lives in Windsor, Berkshire, with his wife Shane. He has three children Orla, Isaac and Hope.
He is passionate about his family, his local church and community. A self-professed hippie at heart, he enjoys listening to mid-sixties to early seventies music. He reads voraciously and collects detective fiction, caper fiction, humour, and books on The Raj and Empire, Mathematics, Management and Information and Technology.
