J. A. Roman is the pen name of an anonymous novelist. He is currently the author of four novels. His first novel was published in early 2013 and his latest work was published in May 2014. Roman has published one historical fiction novel, What Survived, while his three others, Research Island, The Immortality Pursuit, and Hunt are listed as science fiction. While these books have garnered a relatively small amount of critical attention, their reviews have been generally positive, most commonly attaining five out of five stars. Roman is most notable for acquiring over 250 reviews for his novels in under a week all on the Barnes & Noble retailer website. This sudden initial spike in attention that could quickly increase a Bestseller rank shows Roman as a possible example of a user of concentrated “guerilla marketing,” in which “advertisers… engage … frequently enough, to hopefully cause a campaign to turn viral, thereby realizing maximum returns on a relatively low initial investment.”
