Isaiah Richardson Jr.

Isaiah Richardson Jr. is an American jazz clarinetist from New York City. He also plays the saxophone and harmonica as well as other styles of music. Richardson, who plays in the Brown Rice Family roots music band and the Colombian punk rock band Maku SoundSystem, came to the attention of the press, including the New York Times and the Taipei Times, with his street performances of both klezmer and Taiwanese music on the New York Subway and the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Richardson grew up in the The Bronx and studied in the Juilliard School's Music Advancement Program, before entering the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. After his graduation from La Guardia in 1999 he studied at the US Armed Forces School of Music and joined the US Marine Corps, playing in the Marine Corps marching band while stationed in Okinawa. After leaving the Marine Corps in 2003, he spent four months in Taiwan learning Chinese.<ref name= "Fuchs" />
