Internet celebrity

An Internet celebrity is a person who reached fame over the Internet. An Internet celebrity would be either in acting, writing, singing, or even their own appearance would make them an overnight sensation.

MySpace

Due to its popularity, MySpace has helped to boost celebrity status to some of its members. A classic example is Tila Tequila, a Vietnamese American singer who became an overnight sensation by her appearance and singing. Another celebrity that considered to reach this status by looks as well is model , as well as Jeffree Star, Arctic Monkeys and Tom Anderson, the founder and creator of the site.

Second Life

According to the Second Life web site "Second Life® is a 3-D virtual world created by its Residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by millions of Residents from around the globe."
Some of these Second Life residents with exceptional qualities have become Internet celebrities, such as Timeless Prototype, Gywneth Llewelyn, Prokofy Neva and Torley Linden.

YouTube

Internet celebrities also appeared in videos on YouTube. The majority of them are members. One of the most notable celebrities is Jessica Lee Rose, a New Zealand actress, who starred in the internet series, lonelygirl15, as a home-schooled character named Bree, who is looking for friends. Cory Williams and Smosh, a comedy duo that boasts the greatest number of subscribers, are also some examples.

Another YouTube celebrity is Ryan Higa known most for his "How to Be" videos. He stars in the upcoming movie Ryan & Sean's Not So Excellent Adventure, which was filmed in California.

Also starring in the Ryan Higa's movie is Michael Buckley. Buckley, one of YouTube's most subscribed, is best known his comedic fast-paced take on celebrity culture with his What the Buck Show.

Another YouTube celebrity is LisaNova, a writer and actress who would parody real-life events, or just make fun of them. She is also notable for doing impersonations of Salma Hayek, Lindsay Lohan and Keira Knightley.

Jason Steele, although not a household name himself, is noted as the writer of the popular Charlie The Unicorn short stories.

Also notable is the "Leave Britney Alone" video by Chris Crocker, a homosexual Tennessee-based teenager who finds solace recording random solo improvisations of dramatic and eccentric characters he invents in his bedroom at his grandmother's house.

Another person of interest is a video blogger named Kicesie. Her videos, which have received over 70 million views in total, are normally on the subject of sex and sex education. She was also briefly featured in Weezer's video Pork and Beans

Another Youtube celebrity is Lucas Cruikshank, better known as "Fred", who is famous for making his high-pitch voiced, overly-emotional character Fred. He is the third most subscribed YouTube user.

Another also renowned YouTube celebrity is Kevin Wu, better known as Kevjumba. He is the most-subscribed comedian and is probably best known for his rants. He even knows Micah B. A.K.A. MovieMicah

Another comedian from Youtube is NeilCicierega for his famous videos including The Potter Puppet Pals and Kid Rock Movies. He is the #44 most subscribed account on Youtube of all time.

Marie Digby is another great example. She was first found with her original song say it again by hollwood records and made her first album.

Mainstream success

In some cases, people who achieve fame on the Internet go on to enjoy mainstream success. For example, American humorist Maddox, creator of The Best Page in the Universe, has written a , called The Alphabet of Manliness. In another case, Dutch singer Esmée Denters created a channel on YouTube on which she posted videos of her singing cover versions of popular songs; subsequently, she was signed to Tennman Records.

In 2007, Tila Tequila also found mainstream success when she appeared on A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila and in 2008, A Shot at Love 2 with Tila Tequila.

*In the South Park episode, , there is mention of many popular internet celebrities such as , The Star Wars Kid, Gary Brolsma, Tron Guy, Chris Crocker, Sneezing Panda, Afro Ninja, Dramatic Prairie Dog and Laughing Baby.

*VH1 had aired a two part episode of Top 40 Greatest Internet Superstars , which included Back Dorm Boys, Tila Tequila and Gary Brolsma.

*In 2006, the video, Numa Numa, starring Gary Brolsma, had appeared on 100 Greatest / 100 Worst on Channel 4 in the UK.

*In the Weezer music video, Pork and Beans, several internet celebrities appeared in the video. This include Gary Brolsma, Matt McAllister, Mark Allen Hicks ("Afro Ninja"), Chris Crocker, Caitlin Upton, Judson Laipply, Kicesie, Tay Zonday, Kevin Federline (archival footage), Liam Kyle Sullivan, Ryan Weiber, , Jeong-Hyun Lim, The Star Wars kid and many others.

Bebo
There are bebo originals such as Kate Modern or also known as lonelygirl15, Sophia's Diary (episodes of her life in a parrelel world). There are more such as The Gap Year. Bebo is aslo famous for having groups and fan clubs such as F.R.I.E.N.D.S as well.
