International Aiki Peace Week

International Aiki Peace Week, abbreviated IAPW, is an annual week of coordinated action by Aikido dojos and martial arts schools around the world. Organized by Aiki Extensions, IAPW takes place each year in the calendar week that contains the United Nations International Day of Peace, September 21. Its purpose is "to increase public awareness of Aikido as a joyful practice of reconciliation, compassion, and nonviolence".
Objectives and activities
Participating dojos are encouraged during IAPW to hold an event aimed the general public "that teaches Aiki principles a way of managing conflict and preventing violence". Their idea was adopted by Aiki Extensions, an international non-profit organization of Aikido instructors "dedicated to disseminating and applying Aiki principles and methods outside the traditional martial arts training situation", which became the organizer of IAPW.
The first International Aiki Peace Week was held the week of September 20 to 26, 2010. Aiki Peace Week events were conducted by 340 dojos in 43 countries belonging to various martial arts organizations.
