Illinois corn flake

The Great Illinois Corn Flake

Two quick thinking sisters (Melissa And Emily McIntire) from Virginia sold a Corn Flake shaped like the Mid-Western state of Illinois for a staggering $1,350. Originally the first round of bidding which went higher than $100,000 was pulled by eBay staff for breaching it's food policy. The unique shaped piece of cereal then returned on to eBay in the form of a voucher which let the buyer claim the Corn Flake.

Monty Kerr the winner of the now infamous flake also owns TriviaMania.com and said he'll personally go to Virginia to pick up the flake by hand, so it won't be broken or eaten. This isn't the first corn flake that Kerr has tried to buy. He said he purchased a flake billed as the world's largest, but that by the time it was delivered it had crumbled into three pieces. "We're starting a collection of pop culture and Americana items," said Kerr of Austin, Texas. "We thought this was a fantastic one."

Since the flake phenomenon crazy copycat sellers have filled eBay, with junk based around the Corn Flake, items including Corn Flakes shaped like Hawaii and Virginia. There's also been a potato chip shaped like Florida, and Illinois Corn Flake paraphernalia, including t-shirts and buttons. The story of one persons breakfast turing into a massive story make papers all over the world sums up the contemporary American Pop culture.
