The Idol Curse is a fanbased belief that after a musician makes his or her way through the American Idol process, they will generally sell out in order to make more money or comply with a recording contract. Typically, contestants who lean towards genres that record executives believe to be unmarketable or have a limited marketability succumb to the Curse. While not affecting all contestants, fans of the affected are generally disappointed by the change from what they originally voted for. Cases of the Idol Curse Contestants who have succumbed to the idol curse include names like Kellie Pickler, David Archuleta, and more recently Allison Iraheta. The list includes, but is not limited to, the aforementioned. Cases in which High Ranking or Winning Contestants have not succumbed. Winner David Cook, and fourth place runner-up Jason Castro are both currently in the music business, and sticking to their musical roots. Personal Preference Conflicts Although some fans of Adam Lambert do not prefer his 2009 album, his music is based on a preference he had expressed since first appearing on Idol. This is not considered to be a case of the Idol Curse.
