I Wrestled A Bear Once

I Wrestled A Bear Once (sometimes written as iwrestledabearonce) is an experimental deathcore band from Shreveport, Louisiana. They are known for their eclectic writing style and use of various samples, genres, and sounds within the context of death/grind songs, as well as their female vocalist Krysta Cameron, who incorporates both clean singing and death metal-style vocals. They have released one six-song EP and are currently at work on their first full-length.

Career

Bio

On tour with another band in New York, guitarist Steven Bradley met vocalist Krysta Cameron, and the two soon began dating. Upon moving in together in Louisiana, they began writing songs together at the suggestion of roommate and future IWABO guitarist John Ganey. Rounding out a lineup with bassist Brian Dozier, I Wrestled A Bear Once began playing shows and touring in 2007; they later added a drummer and a keyboardist/sampler. After home-recording the IWrestledABearOnce EP and releasing it in December 2007, the band began gaining popularity on Myspace and Youtube, due to their off-the-wall song structures and creative music videos for "Ulrich Firelord: Breaker of Mountains" and "Tastes Like Kevin Bacon" (both directed by David Anthony). In July of 2008, they signed to Century Media Records, and according to their myspace blog,they are currently writing their first full-length album intended for a spring 2009 release. In June through September 2008 they were listed on the Sirius Hard Attack radio station "Devils Dozen" list of thr 12 most requested songs and they rose as high as number 4 on this list. In the Fall of 2008 I Wrestled A Bear Once were written up in the Chicago edition of The Onion and listed in the New York Times as a band to watch in the CMJ Music Festival where they played at the Bowery Poetry Club and the Blender Theater at Gramercy, NY. A recent Century Media news release says that they are currently recording their new album at the studio of Ross Robinson in LA who has produced bands such as Machine Head, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, Sepultura, Norma Jean and many others.

Their EP and merchandise were released in retail stores such as Hot Topic in September 2008 by Covered Bridge Distribution and will hit more retailers early 2009.

Touring

The band has toured and played with bands such as Horse the Band, Veil of Maya, Winds Of Plague, and See You Next Tuesday.
