Hugs and Hope Foundation for Sick Children

The Hugs and Hope Foundation for Sick Children is a U.S.-based tax-exempt nonprofit charity serving seriously ill, injured, or handicapped children. The organization's web site features photographs and descriptions of these children and calls for visitors to send "happy mail" in the form of cards, letters, emails, or small gifts. The charity has an explicitly Christian orientation.
The organization was founded by Marsha Jordan, a Wisconsin grandmother who has experienced serious illness herself, including depression and blindness, and who founded the charity after one of her grandchildren suffered severe burns. Jordan is the author of Hugs, Hope and Peanut Butter (Jada Press 2006 ISBN 0-9771343-4-2), a book featuring artwork by some of the children helped by the charity. The book received generally favorable reviews from readers on the Amazon.com site, though a few reviewers found it disappointing and less than inspirational. Jordan has been published in several national magazines and anthologies, and has appeared on WGN television and a number of radio programs including Billy Graham's Hour of Decision.
The charity sends a monthly email newsletter to approximately 3,000 subscribers interested in the work of the foundation, and is based in Harshaw, Wisconsin.
