Comenius Hall

Built in 1892, Comenius Hall is an American building, which, along with the Priscilla Payne Hurd Academic Complex, built in 2002, is the principal classroom and faculty office building on Moravian College's campus. It was named after John Amos Comenius, a 16th-century Czech bishop of the Ancient Unity of the Brethren created in the Czech kingdom. After the Austrian catholic army invaded the country in 1621 on the eve of the Thirty Year war, the Czech protestant church members had to flee the kingdom to various European countries. The Unity of Brethren was renewed in 18th century in the neighboring Saxony as the Moravian Church.
