Hugh Patinkin

Hugh Patinkin (1950-2005), cousin of actor Mandy Patinkin, and brother of Mark, Doug, Matthew and Nicholas, was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago and Hyde Park. Hugh was the eldest of five sons of June and Hal Patinkin. He received his high school diploma from University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, a B.A. in Political Science from Tufts University, and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
After earning his law degree, Hugh was hired by the Chicago law firm Sidley Austin. In 1979, Hugh and his brother Matthew joined the family jewelry business, Whitehall Jewellers.
Originally known as Marks Brothers Jewelers, the business was founded by Hugo Marks, Hugh's grandfather and namesake. As Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, it was Hugh's vision, focus and energy that grew the company from a 9 store family jeweler to a publicly held company with 389 stores.
On March 30, 2005, Hugh unexpectedly died from a heart arrhythmia at the young age of 54. In addition to his parents and brothers, he is survived by his wife, Sheila, and four children Ben, Shannon, Josh and Max.
He worked his business and nurtured long standing friendships, but above all, Hugh was dedicated to his family.
