Two Way Cousin

A Two Way Cousin is an anthropological term denoting consanguinial kin who are in the same descent group as the subject and are from the fathers side and mothers side of the family. Simply put, a Two Way cousin is a first cousin who is the child of the father's sibling (paternal uncle's child) or the mother's sibling (maternal aunt's child), and the 'Two Way' comes into affect when father's cousin has children or indeed when the mothers's cousin has children.

Two Way cousins, on the other hand, are usually not the subject of promoted marriage since a union in many cultures would fall under an incest taboo.

A Two Way Cousin is a cousin who is related to a particular person twice (or even more) in two forms. For example a person could be their cousin's first cousin and second cousin. It would be important to note that incest did not occur in this form between the parents of a two way cousin. An example of a two way cousin is documented below;

Conclusion

In society when a person is a 'Two Way Cousin' they normally never referr to the latter of their relationship. Using the example above 'James' would only refer to 'Sara' as his First Cousin and not his Second Cousin, but this fact my still be known. This term is probaby never used with reguards to law.
