Home networking

With increasing use of computers at homes in the United States, home computer networking is gaining wide popularity. Even those who have earlier taken the plunge are now resetting their networks for wireless.

There are numerous advantages of using a home networking system. It allows easy and fast file sharing between computers. Users have the possibility to work on various applications such as multi-player online games. It also helps in sharing a printer and an internet connection.

Interestingly, home entertainment products like digital video recorders (DVRs) and video game consoles can now support the devices used to establish a home networking connection. Integrating these products into computer network can help the users to enjoy video sharing, online Internet gaming and other hi-tech-features.

Home computer networking can be built using either wired or wireless technology. The most preferred is Wired Ethernet but WiFi wireless technologies are raising fast. Both wired and wireless has a number of advantages over the others which represent possible prospects for home and other local area network.

On the basis of efficiency, wired LANs perform better as compared to traditional Ethernet connections. However, firewalls are the basic security consideration to install any wired LAN. Users can also opt for broadband routers as they offer an effective firewall capability built into the device, configurable through its own software. Wireless LAN is another mode to install a home networking system.

Wireless networks are generally configured by default to allow access to any computer trying to connect, thereby creating a risk to security. This may cause your network to fall a prey to an evil hacker. Thus, the users are required to choose the mode of their network meticulously.
