The Holiday Inn Express Detroit - Downtown (also known as the Holiday Inn Building, and the Ambassador Hotel) is a skyscraper located at 1020 Washington Boulevard in Downtown Detroit, Michigan. The building was constructed in 1965, stands at 17 floors (52.7 metres / 173 feet high), and has 289 rooms. This high-rise building was designed in the modern architectural style. The building stands at the southeast corner of Michigan Avenue, and is across the street from famous buildings as the Book-Cadillac Hotel, Book Tower, and Industrial-Stevens Apartments. Architectural Style. Companies involved with this building include Summit Group LLC, The Summit Group, Inc, Holiday Inn Express (Six Continents PLC). History This building originally was a Days Inn, but underwent a renovation in 2000 and re-opened under the Best Western Hotel chain. Three years later, the building would receive another renovation, and become a Holiday Inn Express, its current branding. One of Detroit's first skyscrapers (219 Michigan Avenue) occupied this hotel's site, and was demolished to make way for this hotel in 1965.
