Herbert Hudson Taylor IV

Herbert Hudson Taylor IV (Hudson Taylor) (born January 13, 1987) is an American amateur wrestler under Coach Kerry McCoy at the University of Maryland, College Park. He holds the University of Maryland wrestling team's career win and pin records and is currenly ranked among the top-ten pinners in all-time NCAA history.
Career
High School
Hudson graduated from Blair Academy in 2005. At Blair, Hudson became a three-time prep national champion and was rated as the 17th-best recruit in the country by Intermatwrestle.com. He is a three-time placer at the Beast of the East Tournament, including a third place finish in 2003 and runner-up in 2004. In 2002, Hudson became a Cadet Freestyle All-American, and in 2003 he won the Cadet Freestyle National Championship. Hudson ended his high school career with a 128-19 record, including 79 falls.
College
Highly recruited out of high school, Hudson chose to attend the University of Maryland, College Park to wrestle under Coach Pat Santoro. Hudson is currently a two-time NCAA All-American, placing third in the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Division I wrestling tournaments at the 197 pound weight class. In 2008, Hudson became the second All-American in the sport in three decades at the University of Maryland; and, in 2009 Hudson became only the fourth repeat All-American in Maryland wrestling history. He holds the University of Maryland wrestling team's career win and pin records and is currenly ranked among the top-ten pinners in all-time NCAA history, with 155 wins and 83 pins as of January 2010. His current pin record places him among the top-three NCAA pinners over the last quarter-century. Hudson also won the Gorriaran award for most falls at the 2009 NCAA championship.
In 2008, Hudson was honored as Scholar Athlete of the Year for wrestling by the Atlantic Coast Conference and as Athlete of the Year by the University of Maryland’s publication, the Terrapin Times. He was also named to the 2008 and 2009 ACC All-Academic teams as well as to the 2008 and 2009 National Wrestling Coaches Association’s Division I All-Academic Wrestling Teams. Hudson has been selected as Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week a record 12 times and as ACC Wrestler of the Year in 2008. Hudson has also received numerous awards at the University of Maryland for his on-campus leadership and community service efforts.
Personal
Hudson was born to Herbert H. Taylor III and Mary "Polly" Warden Taylor on January 13, 1987 in Austin, Texas. He has two sisters, Heather and Charlotte. He was raised in Pennington, New Jersey.
Hudson is named in honor of his paternal great-great-grandfather, Herbert Hudson Taylor, son of British Protestant missionary James Hudson Taylor. Another important family figure is his maternal great-grandfather, Allen Skinner Hubbard, who founded the international law firm, Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, with business partner and former Chief Justice of the United States, Charles Evans Hughes.
Hudson is engaged to marry to Lia Alexandra Mandaglio, Valedictorian of the 2008 graduating class of Lafayette College and law student at the George Washington University Law School. The couple resides in Washington, D.C.
