Her Name Is Nicole is the first solo album by American pop/R&B singer Nicole Scherzinger, lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls. Originally slated to be released November 6, 2007, the album was pushed back several times into 2008. In numerous interviews she confirmed that some of the songs for her album had been re-recorded and the Pussycat Dolls second album Doll Domination would be released first. She hopes to re-enter the studio after the World Domination Tour to resume recording for the album. It is widely reviewed that "Her Name Is Nicole" was not released as planned because her first two singles failed to chart in the United States despite lead single "Baby Love" having moderate success elsewhere. Background The album has been in production for around 3 years. As of the end of 2008 Nicole had worked with Akon, Macy Gray, Ne-Yo, Pharrell, The Dream, Polow da Don, Sean Garrett, Timbaland, will.i.am and Kuya among others Planned vocal collaborations for the album included Busta Rhymes, Diddy, Akon, Mad Scientist and Sting. Scherzinger had stated on her facebook page she said that "nearly 100 songs had been demoed or recorded for the album. Initially stated for a 2007 release, the release date has been changed several times. After being scheduled for October 16, 2007, the date was pushed back to November 6, 2007, then November 20, 2007 due to the potential release of Jay-Z's and Chris Brown's albums. Scherzinger is reported to have re-recorded some of the songs.. On February 12, 2008, Scherzinger talked about the album via her official site blog To date, Interscope and Scherzinger have not made any announcement on the official release date. A recent interview with Robin Antin confirmed that the second Pussycat Dolls album will be released first, followed by a revised solo album from Scherzinger. On August 18, 2008, in an interview with MTV UK, Scherzinger announced that she does plan to release her album but with a revised tracklisting after some of the songs were given to the Pussycat Dolls for their 2008 studio album, Doll Domination. . In September 2008 when interviewed by HX Magazine, Scherzinger claimed that it was her decision to postpone the album and that she is still working on it. . The album could possibly be released in 2009 after the "Doll Domination Tour" with the Pussycat Dolls. Singles * The album's first single, "Whatever U Like", was released on July 24, 2007 in Canada and the United States. The single failed to chart in the US and underperformed elsewhere, leading to it being branded a 'club single', with "Baby Love" replacing it as the album's 'lead single'. * The second single, "Baby Love", which was produced by and features will.i.am, was officially released on September 10, 2007. Both Interscope's and Scherzinger's official websites started referring to "Baby Love" as her first single, leading to media speculation that this was prompted by the poor performance of "Whatever U Like". This single also underperformed in the US, but charted well throughout Europe (peaking inside the Top 20 in most countries) and Brazil. * Fans were given the chance to vote for the third single on Nicole's website. "Puakenikeni" won the vote and was therefore released as the third single but exclusively on iTunes in US. * Soon after "Supervillain" was released as the fourth US single for download on the iTunes Music Store, but like the previous single failed to chart significantly. Promotion * Nicole's version of "Rio" (originally sung by Duran Duran) was released as a promotional single to promote Caress Brazilian Body Wash by Unilever. The song was released to radio on July 28, 2008 and as a CD single in August 2008. The song failed to chart significantly. *"Physical" was played as a background song in the film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and also CSI: NY. *"Get Into It", a snippet of the demo for "Puakenikeni" which would later be re-written and produced by Akon into a full single, was played in a CW commercial. *"Baby Love" was used for German Vybemobile's TV commercial and Samsung's campaign. *"Happily Never After", was played in an episode of Gossip Girl and was later included in Doll Domination. *"Power's Out" was played as a background in a Revlon commercial, starring Jessica Alba. *"Just Say Yes" was sung by Nicole in an episode of Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious. The song was recorded for the second album by The Pussycat Dolls, but remains unreleased. *"Whatever U Like" was played as a background song in an episode of Las Vegas. Recorded Tracks During recording sessions Scherzinger recorded many songs. Tracklistings were released through Amazon UK in 2007 but due to the album being delayed for so long Amazon and HMV removed the album from pre-order.
