Heath Slater and Rhyno are a professional wrestling tag team performing in WWE, where they are the current and inaugural SmackDown Tag Team Champions after winning a tournament culminating at Backlash.
History
WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions (2016-present)
At the 2016 WWE draft, Heath Slater was the only eligible talent not drafted by Raw or SmackDown. Slater appeared on the July 26 episode of SmackDown, cutting a highly acclaimed worked shoot promo addressing the issue, referring to himself as "the hottest free agent in sports entertainment". only to receive a Gore from a returning Rhyno (also a kayfabe free agent) shortly after. On the August 9 episode of SmackDown, Slater failed to win a SmackDown contract when he lost against Rhyno.
Also at the draft, the and WWE Tag Team Champions were drafted to Raw leaving SmackDown without a championship for the divisions. Subsequently, the and SmackDown Tag Team Championships were announced and Slater asked for a title shot. A stipulation was added to the tournament that if Slater could find a partner and win the tournament for the inaugural tag team championship, Slater would be offered a SmackDown contract. Rhyno agreed to be his partner, Slater and Rhyno proceeded to win their quarterfinal match over the returning The Headbangers (Mosh and Thrasher), their semi-final over The Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley), and the finals at Backlash over The Usos (Jimmy and Jey), becoming the inaugural champions.
Slater signed his SmackDown Live contract on the 13th of September episode before defending the championship with Rhyno in an impromptu defense against The Ascension where they succesfully retained.
