Harry Tuffins

Harry Tuffin is an independent retailer, with shops located close to the England/Wales border in the counties of Shropshire and Powys.

History
Harry Tuffin started the business with his wife Doris in 1955 with a garage and two petrol pumps in Churchstoke.
They expanded the business gradually over the following years and there are now five additional shops in Knighton, Craven Arms, Bishop's Castle, Cleobury Mortimer and Ludlow.

Locations
The stores are similar and are often the only general retailer serving small Marcher communities:
*Knighton: groceries, petrol, multi-storey car-park
*Craven Arms: groceries, petrol
*Churchstoke: groceries, petrol, cafe, country park with animals and an outdoor market
*Bishops Castle: groceries
*Ludlow: groceries, petrol. In Ludlow it has struggled to compete with Tescos
*Cleobury Mortimer: groceries, petrol

The two cafes and filling stations in Churchstoke and Craven Arms are popular with motorcyclists.

The business
Harry Tuffin is part of the Nisa Today buying group. The shops are no strangers to innovation; they were, for example, the first to introduce a form of one-pound shop.

It is listed in the Top 300 Businesses in Wales.
