Harish Chandra Verma is an Indian nuclear experimental physicist and educationist. Verma is famous for his two-volume book, Concepts of Physics, a book on general Physics at intermediate level. He has also written a textbook on Quantum Physics. Early life and Career Prof. Verma obtained his doctoral degree from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1980, working under the supervision of G. N. Rao. He then worked as a lecturer and reader at Patna University before joining IIT Kanpur in 1994. Presently he is working on nanocrystalline magnetic materials and alloy systems. He is also interested in Earth Science problems such as meteorites and extinction boundaries. He started the "School Physics Project" aiming for a better experiment-based and intuitive education at school as well as at college level. He is presently working on a book on Electrodynamics. Verma occasionally lectures about India's cultural values, ancient heritage and advancements. A believer in fair opportunity for all deserving students, he is opposed to Congress's recent proposal for a 49% reservation. Verma is also a poet whose poems can be viewed at his homepage. His book "Concepts of Physics" is a bible for almost all the engineering entrance exam preparation. Shiksha Sopan Dr. Verma and his team endeavor to establish an educational institution in underdeveloped localities close to IIT Kanpur that will build knowledgeable, self-dependent, confident, socially conscious beings who would be responsible and sensitive to society. Shiksha Sopan has formulated its education system to achieve three main objectives. Shiksha Sopan has almost completed its six years. It has been a great experience for those who have been involved in its activities. It has brought hundreds of families together, and given a feeling of the common oneness among different sections of society.
