Hanson Logistics is a company based in St. Joseph, Michigan, United States that provides temperature-controlled transportation, warehousing and supply chain services, including multi-vendor consolidation services with web-based visibility.
History
The company was founded in 1954 as Southern Michigan Cold Storage Co. to support the fruit and vegetable grower communities with processing and storage services. In the first few years, Southern Michigan Cold Storage built or purchased warehouses in Benton Harbor and Hart, Michigan. In 1973, the company constructed a refrigerated warehouse in Logansport, Indiana and opened a facility in South Bend, Indiana. In 1979, the company further expanded with the purchase of the Duffy Mott Company in Hartford, Michigan.
In 1991, Merlin Hanson was elected as Chairman of the Board; in 1993 the company was officially changed to Hanson Cold Storage Co. Later more freezers and warehouses were added in Decatur, Michigan and Lafayette, Indiana. From 1999-2002,the company completed expansions in Lafayette.
In 2005, the company was renamed to Hanson Logistics and began the Velocities Multi-Vendor Consolidation Program. Later that year, Hanson Logistics added a company owned truck fleet for dedicated and shuttle transportation. In 2007, the company opened Phase One of the 14,500,000 cu ft. Chicago Consolidation Center, located in Hobart, Indiana .
In 2009, Hanson Logistics was accepted as a Walmart Third-Party Consolidator .
Hanson Logistics is a member of the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW) and the International Refrigerated Transportation Association (IRTA) . Hanson Logistics is also part of the Hanson Group, which includes Hanson Mold, Hanson Logistics, Hanson Beverage Service and Eagle Technologies.

Hanson Logistics services include warehousing and transportation. With a total of nine facilities and a capacity of 33 million cubic feet of deep frozen, refrigerated and dry warehousing space , Hanson is the 16th largest provider in the U.S.Hanson transportation services include: transportation management, dedicated transportation, distribution services, west coast rail service and Velocities Multi-Vendor Consolidation Program. Hanson Logistics has multi-temperature capabilities and serves food, foodservice, retail, pharmaceutical, chemical and confectionery. Facilities are located in Hobart, IN; Hart, MI; Hartford, MI; Riverside, MI; Benton Harbor, MI; Decatur, MI; Logansport, IN; and Lafayette, IN.
Hanson's Velocities Multi-Vendor Consolidation Program was created in 2005 to assist companies serving retailers, wholesalers and foodservice distributors; especially for those shipping smaller, higher frequency orders . Velocities MVC combines shipments with other vendors to create truckloads for scheduled deliveries to the same retailer.
Hanson also offers supply chain engineering, by reproducing client’s current supply chain and then identifying next steps in achieving areas for improvement, both fundamental and continuous. Hanson offers Network Optimization through an agreement with Supply Chain Optimizers, in Buffalo, NY and Toronto, ON . Supply Chain Optimizers provides supply chain analysis and engineering for many consumer product companies and logistics providers.
Supply chain technology
Hanson Logistics utilizes Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for standardized transmission of documents, integrates transportation management systems for end-to-end supply chain visibility and SSA Global’s Supply Chain Management System for web-enabled WMS.
