Hamilton Island Triathlon

The Hamilton Island Triathlon consists 750 metre swim, a 20km cycle around the southern part of and a 5km run around the marina and resort sides of Hamilton Island. The event is open to individuals or teams over the age of 14 years. The event began as a week long festival in 2009 and attracted internationally acclaimed triathletes Courtney Atkinson, Maxine Seear, and 11-time Ironman distance champion Belinda Granger as competitors in 2009. The 2010 event saw 2009 Runner-up Ryan Fisher take out first place in the mens division, whilst Ashleigh Gentle edged out notable Japanese veteran Kiyomi Niwata for the womens crown. Olympic Silver Medalist Miles Stewart and acclaimed swimming coach Stephan Widmar hosting triathlete Workshops in the leadup to the event.
