Hamida Khanom is one of pioneers in female education among the Bengali Muslim families in the Indian Subcontinent. Education Hamida graduated from Bethune College in Kolkata, India. She subsequently obtained a Master's Degree in Philosophy from Calcutta University,and went to England on a scholarship and obtained B.A. (Hons.) from University College London. She was one of the few Muslim women of her generation from the subcontinent, specifically from the Bengal region, to go abroad for higher education. In those days, very Muslim women in India, went beyond primary school or finished high school. Work Experience Hamida worked as a Lecturer at Lady Brabourne College in Kolkata, Eden Girls College in Dhaka, and worked for many years as a Principal of Home Economics College in Dhaka, Bangladesh before her retirement. Throughout her long educational career she provided support and inspiration to many aspiring females pursuing higher education in Bangladesh. Personal life Hamida is married to A.F. Salahuddin Ahmed,an eminent historian from the sub=coniinent.
