History
Robert Dust and Robert Minteer started Gyrus Systems while they were both working together at Philip Morris. They developed a fixed asset system for Best Programs, Inc. (circa 1982) called PC/FAS Dust and Minteer never became a part of Best Programs, Inc., however they did collect royalty checks until the late 80s.
Gyrus Systems was founded in Richmond, Virginia in 1987. The company’s original founder, Robert Dust, helped streamline and automated the training processes that training departments utilized worldwide.
Later in 1987, Gyrus’ first DOS-based Learning Management System was released. The program, called Transcript, was written for the American Institute of Banking to track student courses. This program was later stripped of its banking affiliation and marketed mainstream - this endeavor was considered unsuccessful by the owners.
Dust and Minteer went along to develop Transcript, Training Administrator and later Training Wizard.
In 2000, Gyrus Systems was acquired by Experient Technologies, which soon after went bankrupt in 2001. Gyrus Systems was purchased in bankruptcy court by Triad LC and Bay4 Capital LLC. Under new leadership, the GyrusAim product line was started, and is the main source of revenue.
In 2009 Gyrus Systems was purchased by Viren Kapadia and Smita Kapadia.
