Gutviga is a Scandinavian folk tale by an unknown author in the 17th century.
The story
Witches enter the region of Scandinavia, and have their start by burning down Cathedrals in Trondheim. Later a girl in Reims by the name of Gutviga gets kidnapped by the witches. She is taken through Prussia, Denmark, and enters her last stop in Norway. She is raised as a witch. Later she is told by the witches to burn down every cathedral in Trondheim. She obeys their command, but runs away on a boat to Tromsø. The people of Trondheim find out that the witches were the ones who burned down the Cathedrals. Gutviga is found, arrested, and sentenced to death by hanging. She finds her mother in her cell, who tries to protect her from the soldiers. Her mother is killed, and Gutviga is hanged in the end.
