Gregory A. Schwitzer

Gregory Allan Schwitzer (born April 2, 1948) has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 2009. He is a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy.
Schwitzer was born in Ogden, Utah, to Harvey R. Schwitzer and Gloria Jane Spiers. He served as a full-time missionary for the LDS Church in North Germany. Schwitzer graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from the University of Utah in 1972. In 1975, he received a medical degree, also from the University of Utah. He spent five years (1975-80) in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He completed his residency and internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center and Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. In 1980, he was named assistant professor of internal medicine at the University of Utah. He later became a physician of emergency medicine at Wasatch Emergency Physicians. He was vice president of clinical programs at Intermountain Health Care from 1992 to 2005.
Schwitzer married Jo Ann Elizabeth Rawsthorne in 1971 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They are the parents of five children.
In the LDS Church, Schwitzer has been a stake high councilor, bishop, counselor in a stake presidency, stake president, temple sealer, and president of the Russia Yekaterinburg Mission (2005-07).
Schwitzer was sustained as a general authority and member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy on April 4, 2009. His first assignment as a general authority was as second counselor in the church's Europe East Area. Three months later, he became first counselor in that area presidency. In 2011, he became the area's president. He was released from that assignment the next year, and since then has been assigned at the church's headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is currently serving as an assistant executive director of the Temple Department.
