Graphis Press Ltd.

Graphis Press Ltd. was a small printing company established in 1949 by John Julius Tomkins in Hackney, London. It later moved to 1-3 Highbury Station Road, London. The company designed and printed record sleeves and art catalogues, as well as working with designers such as Josef Herman, Abram Games and Gerald Scarfe.
The company first started work by printing covers for vinyl records, and its main customers were the labels Decca, Argo and Vox. It designed and printed hundreds of unique covers for these companies up until the 1970's, when the bulk of their work shifted towards producing art catalogs. During that time John's two sons, Peter and Ray joined the company and managed the work.
The company started producing art catalogues for the art galleries of London, advertising private collections and exhibitions and also collaborated with upcoming artists such as designer Abram Games and cartoonist Gerald Scarfe, producing catalogs of their works.
The company continued to work until 1990.
