Derek Dufresne is an internationally published, multi award winning tattoo artist. Music Derek Dufresne (pronounced, doo-frain) is an accomplished bass guitarist and songwriter, and started playing the clubs in bands when he was only 16 years old. He has shared the stage with many major label recording acts such as Quiet Riot, I Mother Earth, Econoline Crush, Sass Jordan, and more. He played in hard rock bands for 10 years, touring Canada. During this time he released 3 EPs, and released a video for the track "Supergun" as part of a music program by CKND TV in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was the number one most requested video in the series. He was the youngest student ever accepted into "PMC- Professional Musicians College, at the age of 15. Tattoos Derek Dufresne is a completely self taught artist. Started experimenting as a teenager with homemade and eventually a professional tattoo machine. Putting the machines down to pursue a career in music. Derek has been tattooing professionally since 1999. He is known worldwide for his large scale, Japanese influenced tattoos, pin ups, and realism (portraits) He travels North America extensively tattooing at numerous tattoo conventions and guest spots. He has been featured and interviewed in countless tattoo magazines from around the world, such as Skin & Ink, International Tattoo Art, Skin Art, Tattoo Savage, Frantik (all USA), Tattoo Arte-Mexico, Tatuajes- Mexico, Tattoo Spirit- Germany, Tattoo Art Magazine-Turkey, Tatz- Australia. And list goes on and on. He consistently has work published in tattoo magazines every month. He has appeared on tv and newspapers both local and international. And has won numerous awards for his tattoos and artwork in Canada and the USA. Also proficient in watercolor paints, pencilcrayon, and markers. He is a husband and father of 3 children Dufresne moved west from Winnipeg, Manitoba and opened Fleshworks Tattoo Studio in 1999. It started as a small one man shop in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. It is now one of the most highly publicized studios in Canada. Derek and his wife Beth moved the studio to Victoria on Vancouver Island in 2003. Tattoo collectors travel from across Canada, the USA and abroad to get tattooed by him. Dufresne has tattooed celebrities and musicians such as members of Skid Row and The Enigma Fleshworks Tattoo Studio The studio is a store front "street shop" with a private studio atmosphere. Designed to make the clients feel comfortable and relaxed. Complete with Koi pond, waterfalls, wide screen plasma tvs with dvd, satellite tv and surround sound for clients to watch movies to help the time go by and take their mind off the pain while getting tattooed. Cd/ mp3 stereo system, Wii system for wireless gaming. The studio has been awarded “Nicest Tattoo Studio” 2 years in a row by The National Tattoo Association. Books/ DVDs Derek has published a book of line drawings titled “Japanese Tattoo Designs”. 100 pages of Japanese tattoo designs drawn in the artists unique style. He also has released an instructional tattoo DVD titled “Dead Mans Ruin- Advanced Tattoo Techniques” in July 2009. The DVD features two tattoos start to finish and soundtrack by Nashville Pussy, Rockets To Ruin, Brides of Destruction, Crystal Pistol, Cornbugs and more. FTW Tattoo Supply Derek and his wife Beth, an artist herself, also own FTW Tattoo Supply. A tattoo supply company that sells only to professional tattoo artists.
