Gourock Park Bowling Club

Gourock Park Bowling Club is a Lawn bowling club in Inverclyde, Scotland.
History
'In 1923 ,the town council had purchased Gourock House and grounds from Lt.Col.Duncan Darroch for the sum of £10,075 and late in 1925 they decided to lay out a Bowling Green in the grounds.
The green was opened for play on the 28th May 1927 . The Club was referred to by various names in the local press , sometimes it was Gourock House Bowling Club ,at others ,Darroch Public bowling green and occasionally Gourock House Club. The new club became known as Gourock Park Bowling club and a highly competitive and successful club it is.'

'In brilliant summer weather , the new bowling green laid by Gourock Town Council at Gourock House grounds was opened for play last Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance of Ladies and Gentlemen, Bailie Mathie ,Treasurer J.Rees-Pedlar,Police Judge Walker , Councillor Herbert Smith , Councillor J.L. Gilmour and Mr Alex Duthie,Burgh Surveyor. In a few opening remarks , Councillor Campbell said that he had pleasure in welcoming those present to the opening for play of their new bowling green. The first jack and the first bowl were then gracefully thrown by Mrs Campbell ,amid applause and Mr Campbell then declared the green open for play. During the afternoon,through the kindness of Councillor Campbell , tea was served at the pavilion and very greatly enjoyed.'

The first President of the Club was a Mr H Barbour and he was aided by the Club's Secretary, John Brownlie. The original Championship board at the Club has a L.A. Osborne as the first ever Champion of the Club.
Gourock Park have been crowned Greenock & District League Champions in 1946, 52, 75, 78, 79 and 81.
David Rollo currently holds the record for winning the Club Championship (five times).
The Club celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1978 and this turned out to be one of the most successful years in the Club. The Gents section won the Greenock & District League and also the Reid Cup and J.S. Thompson Shield. The Ladies made it a double celebration by winning their District League and they also claimed victory in the G&D Ladies Singles (Mrs Margaret Tosh) and the Council Cup Pairs (Mrs Hagen & Mrs McLellan).
To mark this year, the club held a Gents versus Ladies Wapinshaw. The respective highest-up rinks that day were- Mrs J Donnachie, Mrs M Muir, Mrs Wrightman and Miss M Hannah and for the gents—D Turner, M Murray, S Hagen and W Chantry.

in 2008 Joda Reid, Alex McIlravey, Rodger Lynn and Ian Brown won the Scottish Bowling Association's National Fours Championship, which is the first national honour the Club has won.
In 2012 the Senior Fours team of Roger Lynn , Robert Grant , Dougie Brown and Phil Owens were beaten finalists in the Bowls Scotland championships.
In 2015 Michael Stevenson junior was selected to represent Scotland at Under 17's level , matching his accomplishment of representing Scotland at Indoor level.
