Gonzalo Solis

Gonzalo Solis (January 1, 1926-April 1, 1945) was an American professional soldier whose career included service as an infantryman in the United States Army during the Second World War in Europe.
US Army service
After finishing his education at Crozier Tech high school at the age of 17 in 1943, joined the US Army 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division . At the Army Recruiting Station in Dallas, Texas, he enlisted as an infantryman. By 1944, he was airborne-qualified, and left for England to join the war in Europe. Solis took place on the D-Day landings and was killed in action during the battle of the bulge.
Death
Gonzalo Solis at 19 years of age had been awarded a Purple Heart & Bronze Star for bravery.

Solis was killed in action on 1 April 1945 and is buried at: Plot E Row 15 Grave 19, Netherlands American Cemetery. Margraten, Netherlands.
The grave of Gonzalo Solis is cared for by the "Roobroeks" family in the Netherlands. The Roobroeks family has cared for the grave since WWII.
Family
The Solis family are still located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of North Texas. Information about Gonzalo Solis joining the army and heading to Europe is at the "Little Mexico Village" at the local park where photographs of Solis were placed as many Mexican/Americans lost their lives during WWII.
