Go Bolts Security

Go Bolts Security is a fictional security company created by Steven Paul in April of 2011 in response to a letter from his Homeowners Association stating that signs are not allowed. After receiving a yard sign at a game, Mr. Paul placed the "Go Bolts" sign in his front yard to support the Tampa Bay Lightning during their run in the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Within a few days of putting the sign in his yard, he received a letter from the HOA stating "Absolutley (SIC) NO signs are allowed except for security company signs". After venting about the issue on the website reddit, another user suggested that he make the sign into a security sign. Mr. Paul brought the sign into compliance by writing the phrases "Protected by:" and "Security" on the sign with a Sharpie marker. Mr. Paul consulted the HOA bylaws and determined that flags were not against the rules and hung a banner flag across his garage as well. After replying to the HOA and explaining the sign was merely a temporary show of support for the local team and in no way a permanent fixture, the conflict was seemingly over.
However, about a month after the initial letter, Greg Wyshynski of the Puck Daddy blog came across the story on reddit. He interviewed Mr. Paul about the events and published a story the next day. Within a few hours of the story going online, it was thrust to the front page of Yahoo!, becoming the number one featured article and garnered almost 7,000 comments within a few days. Following the popularity of the Yahoo! article, local media outlets in Tampa and Florida began covering the story as well.
The HOA never commented on the issue, nor did they contact Mr. Paul about the modified sign. Their webpage was updated with the Lightning logo and the text "Go Tampa Bay". This led to the eventual "Tampa Bay Teams" section on their front page which is currently sporting a Tampa Bay Rays logo.. The saga ended a couple weeks later as the Lightning fell to the eventual Stanley Cup Champions, the Boston Bruins, in Game 7 of the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals. Mr. Paul removed his sign and flag the following day.
