Glenn Docherty

Glenn Docherty (born in 1983 is a South Australian local government Councillor. He was elected to the City of Playford Council in the 2003 council elections, as one of two Councillors for the electorate called Ward Six. He was re-elected for a second term in the 2006 Local Government General Election and after the 2006 General Election Docherty was elected by the Council as Deputy Mayor of the City of Playford for a term of one year till November 13th 2007. Docherty was re-elected Deputy Mayor on November 13th for another one year term till November 20th 2008.

The electorate Docherty holds is Ward Six, this electorate covers the suburbs of Elizabeth East and Hillbank. These suburbs are residential suburbs which are located approximately 25 km from the CBD of Adelaide.

Docherty currently sits on Community and Environment Committee and Playford CEO Performance Review Committee.In 2007 Docherty was chosen by Council to sit on the Peachy Belt Community Reference Group for the Playford North Project. He also represents the City of Playford on the Playford District Bushfire Prevention Committee.

He was formerly on Playford’s Development Assessment Panel until changes to this Panel arose in 2007.

Inaugural John Legoe Awards for outstanding service to Local Government were introduced in 2007 by the SA Local Government Assoc. Deputy Mayor Docherty was the inaugural winner of the John Legoe Encouragement Award. This award was awarded for excellent effort during his time as a Councillor and Deputy Mayor.

Docherty was first elected to Playford Council at 19 years of age. The youngest person ever elected to Playford Council and also the youngest person in history to be elected Deputy Mayor for Playford at 23 years of age. And is currently the youngest member of the City of Playford. He has completed a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of South Australia and works as a Registered Nurse.

Docherty is involved in a voluntary role with St John Ambulance, currently with the role of Superintendent of the Playford Cadet Division. He is also the President of the St John South Australian Youth Council, and is one of two South Australian Representatives on the St John Australian Youth Council.

In 2001 Docherty was awarded a Centenary Medal for outstanding service to the Australian Community.

Deputy Mayor Docherty faces re-election for his Ward Councillor seat in 2010.
