Gleda and the Sparkling-Cloth is a children's book by Frank Wilson first published in 2005. The books tells the story of a tough and mischievous farm girl called Gleda and what befalls after her boots go missing and may or may not have made off by themselves. In her search for her boots, she meets Muttering Jack who may or may not be much more than a hobbledehoy, as well as the sinister Longnose, and, then, she finds out more than she really wanted to know about Old Mother Gillerpeddy and about a grievance. For the first edition, John A. McPake, R.E. (Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, Bankside Gallery) produced a series of dark and dreamlike black and white illustrations and etchings. In 2006, an audio book version was recorded narrated by Anna Baatz and with tin whistle music played by Michael Eskin. |
