Gilad Lehmann (born Dec 21, 1980), is a Ph.D. student at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Department of Health Sciences. Background Gilad Lehmann was born December 21, 1980 in Hadera, Israel. He did his studies at the Ben-Gurion university of the Negev. Currently, Gilad is a Ph.D. student at the lab for biology of aging in Ben-Gurion university of the Negev, working on his Ph.D. thesis with prof. Vadim Fraifeld, the Ph.D. advisor. The joint work of Prof. Vadim Fraifeld and Gilad Lehmann has started in Gilad's B.Sc. studies. Ever since they met, Gilad has been dedicated to their joint research of the links between mitochondrial related factors and lifespan. In 2009 Gilad was elected as the students representative at the executive committee of the Israeli Gerontological society. Research details The research interests of Gilad regard the determinants of aging and longevity. In 2006 the group in which Gilad is part of has discovered a correlation between mitochondiral DNA (mtDNA) GC% content and species specific lifespan (MLS) . Extension of this work has revealed that this correlation was independent of basal metabolic rate (BMR) correlation with MLS. Together mtDNA GC% and BMR explain over 77% of the variation in the mammalian MLS . This work is a strong indication for the involvement of energy metabolism in MLS.
