Gianna Maria-Onore Bryant ( May 1, 2006 - January 26, 2020), also known as Gigi, was a junior basketball player and the daughter of former NBA legend Kobe Bryant and Vanessa Bryant. She died in a helicopter crash, along with her father and seven others, in California on 26 January 2020 while traveling to the Mamba Sports Academy. Early life Gianna was born in Orange County, California as the second daughter to Kobe Bryant and Vanessa Bryant. Gianna was raised with her older sister Natalia and two younger sisters, Bianka and Capri. She attended Harbor Day School in Newport Beach, California. She played junior basketball at the Mamba Sports Academy and was coached by her father. She played with the club from the U-10 to the U-15 levels. She was widely seen as the successor to Kobe and expressed a desire to play in the . Death At 9:06 a.m. Pacific Standard Time on January 26, 2020, Gianna, Kobe, Gigi's teammates and friends Alyssa Altobelli and Payton Chester, their parents Keri and John Altobelli (head baseball coach at Orange Coast College) and Sarah Chester, as well as basketball coach Christina Mauser and pilot Ara Zobayan departed from John Wayne Airport in a Sikorsky S-76B helicopter. They were heading to Gianna's basketball game at Mamba Sports Academy in Newbury Park. At about 9:47 a.m., the helicopter crashed in foggy conditions, resulting in the death of all nine occupants on board. Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire by 10:30 a.m., however, no survivors were found.
