Ghostgirl

ghostgirl is the brainchild of acclaimed writer/filmmaker Tonya Hurley. A dark, romantic and bittersweet story of longing that is part Gothic allegory, part cautionary tale, ghostgirl is the legend of a misfit teen Charlotte Usher who dies unexpectedly, ‘wakes up’ as a ghost in a parallel world but remains obsessed with all the issues and desires of her previous life, especially her fantasy of going to the big school dance with the best looking guy in school - a need so powerful it transcends death itself.

Throughout, Hurley puts an original spin on the teen world view and the universal issues that define growing up -- friendship, loyalty, competitiveness, sibling rivalry, individuality, young love and most of all, the need for acceptance. ghostgirl is also partly a satire on high school values and teenage life -- what’s important, what’s painful, what lasts forever and what’s ridiculous about it all. Set in the both the sunny suburban hallways of Hawthorne High and the supernatural confines of dilapidated Hawthorne Manor, ghostgirl gives new meaning to the catchphrase “Dying To Be Popular.”

The ghostgirl character debuted on complete with backstory in 2002 and quickly attracted a devoted community of teens for whom the message of self-expression and self-acceptance resonated. Hurley signed a book deal with Little, Brown in 2006 to write two ghostgirl novels, the first due to be published in August of 2008. Ms. Hurley also partnered with America Online in October 2006 to launch www.ghostgirlonred.com an exclusive site on AOL’s RED teen portal, a web destination visited by million of teens each month.
