Gerard Barba

Gérard Barba is a French businessperson and entrepreneur.
Business career
In 1995, Barba started working, as a courier for Marken, a logistic business. In 1997, Marken was acquired by Ocean Group (later to become Exel Logistics and merge into Deutsche Post). After taking on various positions in the company Barba was eventually appointed COO of Marken. From that point on Barba, with partner and CEO Bruce Craig, led a number of successful management buyouts over a period of 10 years. The first transaction in 2003 saw 3I Venture capital enter into the shareholding of Marken and then exited the business after 2 years. In 2005, Barba and Craig led a secondary management buyout of Marken, which by then had become a pharmaceutical and medical transportation services company with the backing of Intermediate Capital Group. Barba and Craig now owned a significant majority stake in the new business and led the expansion of Marken to a leading international position. Barba was instrumental in finalizing the sale of Marken to Apax Partners in 2009. It was the first major Private equity transaction in the world after the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the financial crash of 2008. After the sale, Barba remained with Marken as CEO and ultimately was appointed Chairman of the Board of Apax. In 2010, Barba moved to New York and later to Miami Beach (Florida) to pursue other business ventures.
Barba continues his achievements in a variety of businesses with a special interest for the world of sports and media.
