George Timotheou

George Timotheou (born 29 July 1997) is an Australian professional footballer who plays as a defender for Sydney FC in the A-League.
Timotheou was born in Canberra and joined the AIS football program on a scholarship. After graduating from the AIS, he played a season with Canberra side Belconnen United. He then moved up to Sydney in mid-2014 to train with Sydney FC's first team and then joined its youth team. He played for Blacktown City during the 2015 off-season and in 2016 was promoted to Sydney FC's first team.
Timotheou has represented Australia at youth level, having played for the national under-20 team.
Early life
Timotheou was born in Canberra, ACT and played junior football with Gungahlin United in the north of Canberra. He came through the Canberra Olympic youth system.
Playing career
AIS
At 15 years of age, Timotheou joined the AIS football program. He completed the program at the AIS under former Socceroo defender Tony Vidmar.
Belconnen United
Having graduated from the AIS in 2014, Timotheou began playing for NPL team Belconnen United FC. He made his debut with the club against Tuggeranong United. Whilst playing for the club, Timotheou was spotted by Sydney FC, the club he supported as a child.
Sydney FC
Timotheou joined Sydney FC in mid-2014 and began initially training with the first team, making five pre-season appearances. During the 2014-15 season, Timotheou played for the club's NYL team, making 15 appearances. During the off-season, Timotheou played for Blacktown City in the NSW NPL. In the 2015-16 season, Timotheou again played for Sydney's NYL team which won the 2015-16 National Youth League final. He then participated in Sydney's innaugral National Premier League season, winning the division and securing promotion to the first division. Following his efforts with the youth teams, Timotheou was promoted to Sydney FC's first team for the 2016-17 A-League season.
International Career
Timotheou has represented the Australian under-20 team, making his debut with in 2015.
