George Paunov is a Bulgarian artist, pilot and airplane constructor born in 1944 in Varshets, Bulgaria. He is also known as Paunetsa. Paunov is a member of the creative fund of the union of Bulgarian artists. Because of his creations and cultural contribution he was honored with the title "Honorary citizen of Varshets".
Creative work
George Paunov has been painting since his childhood, but ironically he has studied in a car mechanics school. In his free time he attended classes at the Art Academy with the Bulgarian famous artist Prof. Galileo Simeonov. This helped the young Paunov with his first art exhibition in 1962 when he was just 18 years old. His art has been in more than 30 solo exhibitions. He is a master of oil-painting and winner of 4 gold medals at prestigious exhibitions. His works of art are owned by private collectors from Bulgaria, Germany, France, UK, USA and other counties. His art could also be found in many galleries around the world.
Airplanes and handiness
George Paunov has designed and constructed 2 fully functional airplanes. It took him 3 years to create his first 2-seated airplane in 2003 - "Paunets I M", using a Trabant's engine. He created his second airplane in 2009. It was the one-seater "Paunets M II", which took him one and a half years to complete. He has said that flying is his other passion. Interestingly he is a second generation artist and a pilot, his father being an artist and a pilot as well. Since 2009 you can find Paunov in his home at Varshets, painting and flying his own airplane.
