George Laakso
Sculptor, Born 1918 lived and created Artworks in Virginia Beach from 1962-till his death in 1981.

George built and ran, with his wife Ruth, the Studio-Gallery, the largest gallery, south of Washington, D.C. His work is still located throughout the Hampton Roads area with his sculptures. He left a collection of one-of-a-kind cast and carved sculptures.
His outpouring was prolific. His life was cut short by an inevitable heart attack which would have been avoided if his finances were in place for a heart by-pass operation.
Laakso persued his legacy to his beloved country Finland and to his work on the Kalevala, the mythology of the Finn's.

George is survived by Ruth Laakso who continued to paint until her death at age 87, on April 17th, 2007, She was planning to participate in her 44th Boardwalk Art Show in June 2007.
