Geek Shui Living

Geek Shui Living (GSL) is a Web technology blog launched in 2007. GSL provides coverage, reviews, and Op-Eds on information technology, mobile computing, mobile phone, network security, social media, popular geek culture topics, and video games. The blog was founded by Justin E. Gehrke and is based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but, as of January 2011, the site includes posts from fifteen contributors, located in the United States (to include Puerto Rico) and Canada. GSL is recognized for going beyond the technology headline and provides in-depth analysis, in order to provide readers with the potential impact and effect on their lives, with regard to Net Neutrality, Online Privacy, Social Media, and other prominent technology subjects. Published works by Gehrke, via GSL, have been featured on such prominent news and technology sites, such as MWD Technology News and Newsy.com. The latter featured a report from GSL regarding the privacy implications posed by the archiving of Twitter "tweets", by the U.S. Library of Congress, alongside others from notable news outlets to include CNN, FOX News, MSNBC and The Atlantic. Since early 2010, GSL articles have been included among those listed daily in the Science and Technology section of Google News.
The term "Geek Shui Living" was created by Gehrke in 2006 and is based upon the idea of integrating principles of Feng Shui that seek to achieve balance in the physical world, into the dual real and virtual lives that many people lead on a daily basis. "Geek Shui Living" can be explained as a modern derivative of Feng Shui that seeks to help both normal and advanced technology users achieve balance between their physical and virtual lives, through education, awareness, and understanding of evolving technologies and in order to help them understand how such technologies can be leveraged to improve their own lives. Since its original creation as a tool for the successful implementation of Information Technology and Network Security policies and best business practices for residential and business computer users, the term "Geek Shui Living" evolved into its most recognizable form to date, via the current GSL technology blog , which is targeted toward both recreational and professional Geeks. The site has seen a rapid increase in readership, since 2nd Quarter 2010 and continues to grow in notoriety, as evidenced by an exponential increase in monthly page view averages (1,680 - 2nd Qtr 2010; 20,022 - 2nd Qtr 2011).
