Gary Whitford

Gary Whitford is a television director, producer and voice artist, specialising in live and pre-recorded television programmes.
Early career
Whitford's career started in Cornwall working for the local BBC Radio Station working with legends Jerry Clark and giving Justin Leigh his big break, before moving on to read the news on BBC Network Radio and British Forces Radio (BFBS). In 1991 Whitford presented for Melody Radio London. He also produced David Jacobs brief stint with Melody. Whitford took charge of the commercial production department (as small as it was) for a couple of years and worked closely with the presenters and the programme director Peter Black. During this time Whitford also provided the voices for some of the characters in the Channel 4 series Eurotrash.
Career
Whitford met Frank Sinatra at Annabel's Bar when launching Melody Radio.
Worked with the legendary Ken Evans founder of Radio Luxembourg.
Whitford left Melody Radio to become an announcer with British Television network - Channel 4 and was the first live voice heard from their new headquarters in Horseferry Road.
Whitford moved from voicing live television to directing it and has directed News 24 and Sky News over the past few years.
In 2007 Whitford provided 30 different voices for a new Luc Besson animation, Valerian et Lauraline.
Whitford directed live analysis programmes for British EuroSport in 2007 and 2008, including the Tour de France and Africa Cup of Nations.
Whitford also worked with Peter Simon and other auctioneers, directing live programmes for Bid-TV and Price Drop TV.
In 2008, Whitford was directing for Al Jazeera English, working with David Frost on his programme, Frost Around the World.
Whitford helped etv productions on the re-launch of Gala TV and oversaw the production and crew for a couple of years, working with Ben Hull and Chris Parker.
KidsCoTV was a global children's television network and Whitford is the voice of the English service of KidsCoTV.
Whitford was one of a few people developing the future delivery of global television with Ericsson Broadcast.
In 2011 Whitford started a campaign to prove that radio does not have to be boring and personality radio is not dead, with new videos released on YouTube.
Unfortunately personality radio seems to have died.

After programmes about the history of Channel 4 and BFBS Radio and TV and other broadcasters which he had made a major contribution were made without including him, Whitford retired from media.
Whitford joined the NHS to help people struggling with mental health issues, and worked in a key role for 5 years.
When the love of his life passed away from cancer and after dealing with his own mental health issues (as well as fighting alcohol addition), Whitford became a recluse from public life and now lives somewhere in Croatia.
