Gary M. Collins

Gary Michael Collins is an American politician that currently is serving as the 3rd Council District Representative for the Baltimore City Republican Central Committee. His first term began on January 14, 2011 and will conclude on January 13, 2015. Collins won 53% of the vote during his election in the Baltimore City 2010 Gubernatorial Primary Elections. As the youngest elected officials in the state of Maryland, he also managed to land one of the largest number of votes among his Baltimore City Republican colleagues.
Collins began his political career in 2006, working as the Students Coalition Director of Lt. Governor Michael S. Steele's unsuccessful race for United States Senate against Democrat Ben Cardin. His interest in politics grew into professional campaign consulting and management for a variety of candidates through the 2008 Presidential elections and 2010 Gubernatorial Primary Elections. One such candidate was Curtis Island native Richard Matthews, whom ran unsuccessfully for United States House of Representatives in the against incumbent Democrat Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger. Collins built a campaign platform for his client candidate that promoted "liberty, peace, and prosperity" and rejected universal health care. During this campaign, the Maryland Gazette dubbed Collins with the nickname "Hurricane Gary", which has stuck with him throughout his political career.
In 2009, Collins became the youngest Maryland Ancient, Free, and Accepted Master Mason at Laurel Wreath A.F. & A.M. Lodge #149. Collins also is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha International Fraternity and several other public and private fraternal groups. From 2008 to 2011, Collins served as the Membership Chairman for the District 32 Republican Club in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
