FutureSinhala

FutureSinhala is a technology intended to facilitate a single/universal Sinhala Language representation system (UNICODE) without sacrificing any input methods or backwards compatibility, and is an attempt to make all the legacy (proprietary) Sinhala representation systems and input methods support Unicode. The idea behind the technology is to create a bridge between the various input methods (Transliteration, Wijesekara Typewritter, Phonetic etc.) and the SLS1134 Unicode Standard for Sinhala Script. The concept was first brought to light by ICT Agency of Sri Lanka and the developers across the country were invited to implement it . The technology was first implemented on a windows OS by Dasith Wijesiriwardena . It is mandatory requirement for all government agencies to use commercial software that comply with this standard and ICTA is responsible for certifing all commercial Sinhala software
Concept
The concept of "Any IME or File Format" to "SLS 1134 - Unicode" requires the implementation of two parts plus updating the windows OS to render Sinhala scripts properly.
1. An IME which supports "all major" input methods used in typing Sinhala and full support for complex scripts in unicode.
2. A tool to convert all legacy file formats saved in 8 bit characters (and proprietary fonts) to a 16 bit format.
3. Updating the windows OS (pre Vista) with the latest UNISCRIBE libraries to support Sinhala script.
FutureSinhala 2
With Windows & and Latest versions of Linux having full support for the Sinhala script it is now mandatory for developers to take advantage and create new dimensions to input Sinhala. FutureSinhala 2 is a concept where Speech Recognition, Optical Charatcter Recognition, Online/Pattern Character Recognition, Spell Check and Translation will be built into the operating system to seamelessly intergrate Sinhala input.
There are no current full implementations of FutureSinahala 2.
