Freedom Through Christ Prison Ministry

Freedom Through Christ Prison Ministry was founded in 1980 and operates out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Freedom Through Christ Prison merged with a similar prison ministry that operated since 1975. Its founder, Joy Perry, runs the entire operation at her own expense relying on volunteers and active members of Christianity to correspond with inmates on the subject of Christianity, donate Bibles, and to minister inside of the prisons. The ministry reaches approximately 5,000 inmates annually. Prison ministry has been found to increase positive behaviors in inmates.
The Courts
In 2004, the Florida Department of Corrections banned Freedom Through Christ Prison from helping inmates in that state find Christian pen-pals to correspond with. Joy Perry filed a lawsuit along with WriteAPrisoner.com, which was also banned from helping inmates in Florida find pen-pals. They are being represented by the Florida Justice Institute.
