Fort Work is a coworking space in Downtown Dallas, TX founded by Oren Salomon. In addition to providing shared work space to approximately 100 members, it also hosts events and classes related to design, business, technology, and entrepreneurship. Its mission is to "Work For Yourself, Not By Yourself" History Founding Fort Work was established in 2012 by Oren Salomon. On why he founded Fort Work, Salomon states, "Coworking provides a context after school for people to share all experiences from a philosophical conversation to a snack to moral support and everything in between." Relocation The coworking space was originally located in North Dallas. In September 2014, Fort Work announced plans to relocate to 211 North Ervay St. in Downtown Dallas, TX. Fort Work reopened in the new location in January 2015 in a 20k sq ft space on two floors of Alto 211. Dallas Startup Week In 2015, Fort Work hosted speakers for the inaugural event. Fort Work participated again in 2016 as a host venue. Dallas Pitch Prize Startups pitched to a panel of investors including Molly Cain, former Program Director of Tech Wildcatters and Founders of Seed Sumo accelerator. The format was a winner take all prize of $2000 cash and the chance for investment opportunities. Downtown Dallas Hackathon Fort Work hosted the first ever Downtown Dallas Hackathon on Friday and Saturday April 24 & 25, 2015. With support from Downtown Dallas Inc. and others, participants were encouraged to hack on projects that solve problems specific to Downtown across a 24-hour period from 8 PM-8 PM. Hackers were welcome from all over, but the judges were all Downtown residents. Four teams in total competed with Downtown SafeShield eventually taking first place. Services Fort Work provides two main types of services: Coworking The space currently hosts approximately 100 members from 70 companies in a wide range of fields; including marketing, design, mobile application development, web development, gaming, journalism, consulting, and others. Membership tiers range from flex desk space to private offices, and include 24/7/365 access, gigabit Wi-Fi and office supplies, coffee, tea, snacks, and use of four conference rooms that may be reserved. Events The space has hosted two to three events per week since its founding in 2012. These include coworking mixers, industry-specific mixers, speaker series, startup launch parties, and meetings of local technology and business groups.
