Forms Forms Forms are a British indie pop band, based in Nunhead, London. The members are currently students at Goldsmiths, University of London, where they met and formed the band in 2006. Goldsmiths is renowned as having been the starting point for many successful British bands, such as Blur.
Overview
The band consists of Peter Morrow (vocals/guitar), Joe Barton (Bass), and drummer Stephen Slagter, formerly of Brighton-based rock outfit Naakers Bones.
Although not signed to a record label, Forms Forms Forms have received considerable coverage in the music press, with influential London magazine The Stool Pigeon noting them to be "better than The Cribs". They have also been compared to indie band, Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong and, perhaps unsurprisingly, fellow Goldsmiths' alumni Blur.
The band have been linked to both the New Cross scene and the Shoreditch indie scene, associated with clubs like Catch. They currently have their own residency at the Bird's Nest, Deptford.
In 2006, a story circulated about a crowd gathering outside one of the band's shows in Shoreditch, London, which was reportedly so large that the band cancelled the gig in the venue and ran electricity cables into the street and performed in the road. The rumour was traced back to the University of Exeter magazine Exeposé, who have since confirmed that the band in fact played a second, acoustic set outside the venue, having completed their planned performance inside.
Peter Morrow's lyrics are noted for exploring the tension between the traditionally macho male psyche and the relative fragility of the post-modern man, who is perceived to be in a 'trapped' state between conventional masculinity and metrosexual insecurity.
